Boot Volume resized to 200 GB but guest OS still detects a 50 GB disk

edited Jul 13, 2026 4:51AM in OCI - General

Hello,
I resized my Oracle Cloud Boot Volume from 50GB to 200GB. The Oracle Console and OCI CLI both report the Boot Volume as 200GB, but the guest OS (Ubuntu 22.04) still detects the disk as 50GB. Because of this, I cannot expand the partition or filesystem.

Region: US Ashburn

Shape:VM.Standard.A1.Flex (Always Free)

Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04

The resize operation appears to have completed successfully:

Boot Volume status: AVAILABLE

Boot Volume size: 200GB

Boot Volume Attachment exists and is attached to the instance.

OCI CLI confirms the Boot Volume size: "size-in-gbs": 200.

The problem is:
Inside the guest OS, the disk is still presented as a 50GB device.

Howdy, Stranger!
