How to automate a simple component to return to 0 at a certain End Date

Hi Experts,

We are configuring a salary basis where the amount is determined by salary with simple components.

We have a requirement where one of our components will be an amount greater than $0 for a pre-determined length (ex. 6 months), and then should return to $0.

Is there a way to automate this process to automatically 0 out that component, but leave the other components untouched? When we populate the End Date field on the Change Salary page, the salary record is wiped completely. Currently, our administrators need to conduct two separate change salary transactions. One to increase the component, and another to 0-out the component.
