What are the situations where we can't make an update to Asset Number?

We are in general able to make changes/update the Asset Number.

Wanted to know when or under what situations will we not be able to update Asset Numbers anymore?

Also, what is the exact impact of changing Asset Number? Are their fields or places where the change won't be reflected i.e. in already created Work Order or Work Order History or any of the reports?
