Article Status is a configurable list of values associated with knowledge articles that was originally introduced to provide a very simple mechanism to track the lifecycle of an article. It requires humans to actively select the correct status from a list of statuses. Though this feature has existed for nearly the entire life of Fusion Knowledge Management, there has been very little adoption and there are now better options available. As part of the removal of Classic Fusion UIs, this feature is also being removed.
