Is it possible to track for the same employee multiple Contracts for a single assignment?

Hello,

we need to associate 2 contracts record to the same employee, who has a single assignment. For example:

Contract 1:

Start Date: 01/01/2000, Contract Type: Unlimited, End Date: n/a

Contract 2:

Start Date: 01/01/2000, Contract Type: Limited, End Date: 31/12/2010

Is it feasible? We don't want contract extensions, but 2 contracts at the same time.
