A purchasing catalog is already defaulted on the Item with a dummy category. Can we use the redwood : mass assign items to assign or unassign items from catalog categories feature to assign the item to the actual category

i am currently getting an error Items cannot be assigned to multiple categories for this catalog because the catalog is configured for single assignment category assignment
