Unprocessed Shipping Transactions

 We have some unprocessed shipping transactions that prevent us from closing the year-end.  I ran the interface trip stop but giving an error message as follows:
Account Generator failed in FND_FLEX_WORKFLOW.GENERATE with following error

ERROR_NAME    : WFENG_SYNCH_DISABLED
ERROR_MESSAGE : 3135: 'Wf_Item_Activity_Status.Set_Error(error_process)' is
not permitted in synchronous processes.

What's the best way to resolve this issue?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
