TimesTen : Can we create custom indexes on the Oracle base tables?

Hi,
Can we create custom indexes on the Oracle(Apps) base tables or will it have any performance issues?

Example creating custom indexes in MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_B or RA_CUSTOMER_TRX_ALL etc?
