OIF 11g authentication engines

I am working with a client who has requested to add a logo and some other text to the login page that is presented by the LDAP authentication engine. I would assume that this would be a fairly common request, but I have not found any documentation to support this. It would be great if there was an out of the box method to add a simple company logo to the login page.

I have also considered looking down the path of creating a custom authentication engine that can authenticate the user against the same LDAP server. My problem is that I am not a web developer and I have not found any relevant examples to help me understand where to begin creating a custom authentication engine.
