how to enable sendmail stats

 After installing Solaris 10 patches (142900-11, 144488-04, 142910-17) sendmail stopped collecting and reporting stats. 
mailstats
mailstats: no statistics file located

The MOS "knowledge" returns no hits when searching on "enable sendmail stats".
