NFSv4 Hangs for Several Minutes

edited Feb 16, 2011 4:55AM in Oracle Solaris Networking (MOSC) 5 commentsAnswered
We have a couple of NFS servers running Soloaris 10u9. These servers host several ZFS datasets that are mounted by, mostly, RHEL 5 clients. We use NFSv4 in order to take advantage of the 'mirror mounts' feature to access our nested datasets. Everything works fine except that once or twice a day the NFS access hangs for 2-3 minutes and then everything is fine again. When the hang occurs, thousands of these messages are logged on our linux servers:
kernel: Error: state recovery failed on NFSv4 server 10.208.3.75 with error 2

On the solaris servers, no errors are generated, however the files present in /var/nfs/v4_state multiply from less than 30 to more than 30,000. Once the issue clears, the number of files drops back down to less than 30.

Howdy, Stranger!
