Link aggregation policies for outgoing traffic (Solaris 11 Express)

Hello,
I was reading the System Administration Guide: Network Interfaces and Network Virtualization, chapter 11, page 220 but could not clearly understand the implications of L2, L3 and L4 policies.

Honestly, what does it mean, for instance, the L2 policy regarding MAC?

If someone could help clarify, perhaps with a few basic scenarios, it could be great.
