Directory Server - Workstation not recognizing LDAP group permissions

We are having an issue with our Solaris 9 workstations not recognizing LDAP group permissions. What we want to do is share out a directory to a group.  This seems easy enough but we are having a difficult time with it.  Anytime we try to cd into the directory as a user in a group, we get "permission denied"
Our current setup is as follows.

LDAP server is Solaris 10, running DS 6.3
Workstation are Solaris 9

We set up a group using the Directory Service Control Center and put user's in it. 
I can go to the workstation and perform a chown to change the user and group ownership
