Connecting applications using odbc to oracle database

Hi,
I'm new to Oracle database development so pardon if the question seems stupid. We would like to develop an Oracle database for a windows based application that will use ODBC. This application will probably be installed on different versions of Windows (xp, vista, etc) but will connect to the same server containing the Oracle database. Will this pose any problem or can you suggest several tips or warnings that I need to know? I want to know early before actually proceeding on the development because we have an option of using MS SQL but we prefer Oracle database if it
