Testing oracle database connection using odbc

Hi,
We have oracle 11g R2 Database installed on a windows 2003 server. We purchased a software which will connect to the oracle db using ODBC and it is now my task to configure the connection but I'm not sure how. Can you help me make a connection setup and a visual basic program to test that I can connect to the database using ODBC? Sorry if it seems to be a dumb request but Im really not sure how to do it. I know how to make a vb6-mssql connection but not vb6-oracle.
