FMS 8.9 chartfield project ID migration effort - copy project ID chartfield to operation unit for po

have anybody gone this path before? the project ID in chartfield contains non-project ID data so it needs to be moved out to another chartfield field: operating unit.  The scope is to copy project ID field to operating unit for all posted journals. If any company has done the similar exercise, I would like to hear from you.
