Deleting AP Business Unit

Has any sucessfully deleted an AP BU?

We have an AP BU (unused/no transactions) that we would like to delete and we are told it is almost impossible. Our thoughts were to run a trace while setting one up in sandbox to follow the data to find the tables. Any suggestions would be welcome.
