XML Gateway Date datatype conversion issue

I am trying to populate a Date field in my table using XML Gateway.  I have built the xgm file with Message Designer and made sure that the datatypes are correct on the source and target side, but when I post the XML message, the Transaction Monitor report datatype conversion error.  Is there something special I need to do in the dtd, the xml, or the xgm file to accommodate the date datatype?
