How is the Source Address determined for outgoing sockets

edited Feb 7, 2012 5:47PM in Oracle Solaris Networking (MOSC) 5 commentsAnswered
We have multiple applications running on the same server, but each application listens on it's own Logical IP.  Each logical address is created against the same interface.  A second interface is defined with the same groupname, but does not have an IP address assigned.

We are trying to understand why when an application connects to another system, the Source IP Address of the socket is not the logical address the application is listening on.  How is the Source Address assigned?  Is it always the physical address assigned to the interface?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Andre Fischer.
