SSL setup between Access Server and Directory Server

We have OAM 10g installed and need to renew the SSL certificates on our LDAP directory.  The Knowledge Base article ID 740032.1 has this note on assumptions:  Make sure the Root CA certificate file is stored as .cer format. My question is, what if the certificates we have are in .crt format?  Will the certutil work with these?  Also, we have two of them, so do we run the certutil twice?
