Do business unit IDs still need to be 5 characters for maximum performance

We are installing new instances of PeopleSoft 9.1 on Oracle Database 11g.  We are naming our business units and wonder if the old maxim of using all 5 characters of the business unit id field for better performance still holds true.  We do see that the Payables PeopleBook still recommends that.
Does anyone have an Oracle recommendation or answer on this?
