What is the meaning of getrecord(1) and getrowset(1) in peoplecode

Dear All;

            I am pretty new in PeopleSoft so can any one tell me with example that what is the meaning of getrecord(1) and getrowset(1), why we write (1) along with getrecord and getrowset.
