Previously posted journals flipped to unposted

We're running 9.1, converted from 8.8. 

Issue:  There are about 100 journals discovered this month that were previously posted (some converted w/ a valid and posted status, other online journals that passed edit and posted) that are now - mysteriously - unposted. 

Facts:

Edit and post are run via a nightly batch

The last user is the original user

The last update date is the last time batch was run (I'm assuming an attempt to revalidate and post them)

Journal unpost is not running as a batch process

Journal unpost has not been run as an adhoc process

Has anyone had a similiar situation happen?  I know how to fix the journals, but I need to stop the "phantom unposter"
