Seeking guidance on maintenance strategy - bundles vs. MP vs. Feature Packs

We upgraded to HCM 9.1 in 2011 and upgraded Tools to 8.52 this past July.  Now, we are trying to determine the best strategy to stay current with maintenance.

We're trying to balance the effort of upgrading (we have a lot of customizations) against the benefit of new features.  The business client really wants access to the new features, but IT feels we would need several months of retrofitting, regression and user acceptance testing to install the latest cumulative MP.

What has been your experience with applying bundles vs. MP vs. the Feature Packs?
