INST-6190 during LDAP Sync Configuration of OIM 11gR2

Here's the situation: I am installing OIM 11gR2 with LDAP Sync. I am configuring LDAP Sync to connect to our OVD server, which has two adapters: one that connects to our Active Directory server, and another that provides the cn=changelog from the AD server. The OVD adapters were configured as described in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27559_01/install.1112/e27301/oim.htm#CDDIAADD.

After selecting the OVD server type, and entering valid values for the Server URL, user, password and search DN, the wizard encounters INST-6190: Error in validating LDAP credentials For the Selected Directory Server Type.
