Component Interface: Recommended Workaround to Handle Related Display Fields

Is there a recommended workaround to include related display fields in a component interface?  I am considering cloning component SS_CC_HOLDS to create a custom component with a different search record (PEOPLE_SRCH), then build the CI to support a web service.  I want the CI to include 2 fields that are currently Related Display fields on a secondary page (SS_CC_HOLD_SEC).  The 2 fields that I want to include are: SRVC_IND_RSN_VW.DESCR and SRVC_IND_RSN_VW.DESCRLONG.

According to the following documentation, a CI is not designed to include related display fields.
