Need to add custom attribute to OIM User and pass through connecter to OID

I have a custom attribute that holds the user's digital certificate subject in our OID. How can I add this attribute to the OIM user meta-data and configure the LDAP connector to update the user entry in the OID?
We are using OIM 11.1.1.5.0 and OID 11g.
