Monitoring the status of Application domain

Hello Experts,

   We are planning to setup an alerting mechanism in our production application server to find out the status of application domain, we want to trigger a communication to the SYSADMINs when ever the App domain is down.

   I am thinking the cmd utility of psadmin can be of useful to us here like

   psadmin -c sstatus -d <DOMAIN-NAME>.

  How ever the alert mechanism(NIMBUS) we have is not much comfortable with taking the output from this command and alert when the domain is down.

  Do I have any other options at the OS(Windows 2008 R2) level to perform this monitoring activity. We are at PT 8.51.15.
