Related Language Tables

I have created a new related language table, same keys as base table plus the language_cd as a key, then added a descr field. Then on the base table I've added the related language table.
When I add data in the base language and save the data goes correctly into the base table. When I change my language and update the descr field and save, the data is added correctly to the related language table, but the base table is updated with the the same data that is in the related language table.

What have I missed as part of the setup?
