Changing attribute AD- OID DIP attribute mappin change..

Gurus,

I have an issue with AD - OID DIP synchronization.  This is OID 11g (11.1.1.5).     Mapped the attributes correctly but one attribute was mapped incorrectly  "employeenumber".  In default mapping it is "employeeid" is mapped to "employeenumber" in OID.  So it is integrated and users synched  up and working.  Now the attribute is  changed but does not seem to be synching up from the source.

For e.g  changed from 
"employeeid:: :user:employeenumber: :inetorgperson:"
to
"employeenumber:: :user:employeenumber: :inetorgperson:"

 Question is changing the  AD-OID mapping after synched does  is work?  Or any gotcha's I need to do to kick start the synch up.  Tried to bootstrap and that does not seem to help either.  Restarting the OID also does not seem to help.  Anyone experienced or have fix for this.
