Log files changes from .stdout to .log

Hi, may I know what causes log files to change its format from .stdout to .log? This suddenly happen when running my normal processes. There is no changes being done with this programs. After it completed successfully, the log file which was normally ".stdout" format become ".log" format. May I know what can cause this to happen?
