Anticipating tasks/activities for an upgrade (HR8.8/PT8.48 to HR9.1/PT8.51)

We're in the process of planning the upgrade from HRMS 8.8 / PT 8.48 to HRMS 9.1 / PT 8.51.
(Actually it will be an upgrade to HRMS 9.2 / PT 8.53, but we have to do the 9.1 upgrade first according to the certified path).
We would like to get as fast as possible to a prototype with just a subset of our customizations and developments. And in order to get to that prototype as soon as possible we try to anticipate tasks/activities that need to be done by different teams.
For example we identified that the Functional Team (our client) will need to analyze the Person model, etc. and take some decisions for the upgrade.
