Allowing OIM UDFs to flow to OID attributes.

I'm so confused. Every time I think I finally understand how to do this, I read another documentation entry that seems to contradict what I thought I knew.
All I want to do is add some additional optional attributes to my OID and have the corresponding UDF values in OIM flow through the LDAP Connector into my OID users during user adds and updates.
