PT 8.53 Branding of PSSTYLEDEF

We are currently on CS9.0 PT 8.51 and are upgrading to PT 8.53.

We originally started with stylesheet PSSTYLEDEF_SWAN but due to lack of contrast of text in scrollbar headers have switched to PSSTYLEDEF.

To do our branding we are replacing delivered images for the logo and top 2 blue lines of the header (multiple images) with our own.

Is there an easier/better way to do this utilizing the PeopleTools > Portal > Branding components?  Is there a "how to" document that explains how to do this.  I have found the documentation that explains how to upload objects but am not sure how to incorporate them into the above stylesheet(s).
