PSFT Two-Step Upgrade 8.8 to 9.2

Has anybody researched upgrade paths between 8.8 and 9.2?  This will be a two-step, and I don't know which approach has most advantages (e.g. 8.8 -> 8.9, then 8.9 to 9.2).  Any reference information would also be helpful.  Thanks.
