OIM Password Self-Service Migration Readiness

I am about to embark on a project where we will be leveraging OIM's password self-service functionality. Currently, there is a custom pw self-service in place which uses Active Directory attributes for Secret Question / Answer. I have two questions around this:
1) Is it possible to migrate hashed secret answers to OIM during the migration? I assume OIM would have to allow for an understanding around the has that was used. Is this possible?

2) Exactly how does OIM leverage AD attributes for password self service?

Any input on this is greatly appreciated!
