Re-implement vs. upgrade HCM 9.0 to HCM 9.2

We will soon complete splitting our Campus Solutions and HCM 9.0 databases into two separate instances. The next step will be to move to HCM 9.2.
We are considering whether or not re-implementation might be a better solution than a traditional upgrade.  Doing so would effectively remove the Campus Solutions objects, as well as any customizations.  It would  also give us  the opportunity to test HCM 9.2 without our current customizations to determine if they are still needed.

Has anyone done this, or have any ideas to offer?
