11i Workflow and AME

We are on 11.5.10 and will be using the  workflow to get  the approvers. We have diffirent transactions such as salary adjustment,  , termination,  equipment purchases etc.. We are routing  it specific  approver we defined  based on the transaction type.   If we use AME, do we need to change the workflow thru worflow builder for it to work?.  Can we  just AME only?
