Question on "_ignore_desc_in_index "parameter

We've been doing system testing in ELM and it has been slow. The system overall is slow and so, some of the pages seem slower. We could not find anything wrong in appserver or webserver settings. We visited normal troubleshooting options and nothing seems out of ordinary like DDDAudit is clean. Slow pages either do not get caught in OEM or the Advisor doesn't recommend any new indexes or profiles which can help.

We are working on narrowing down the issue, and would like to have your recommendation on the following item:

We reviewed various recommendations in My Oracle Support and the red paper on PeopleSoft Performance on Oracle 11g - it recommends we change the parameter _ignore_desc_in_index to TRUE. We have it defined as FALSE.
