Related content - peoplesoft component not showing

Hi,
I'm trying to setup a side by side config of two components using related content. Somehow the related content link in the upper right of the page is showing, but clicking on it doesn't show any content.

Is anyone familiar with this behavior?

What I have done:

• On PT 8.53.02
• 2 components both having EMPLID als single key in the search record
• Security grants access to this components just fine for my userId
  
• Using 'Manage Related Content for Content References' I picked component_1 and assigned component_2 as a component level content reference using EMPLID as a key to parse
• Layout is set to show the related content on opening the component
