pt8.49 wsrp consumption, portlet blank

How do you self-consume WSRP Portlets on the same system as the producer when off-loading ssl to an accelerator like BigIP? The WSRP was produced by modifying the CRef for Peopletools Options page, checking the box to make it WSRP producible. I can get it to work for http web server configurations but the portlet is blamk when self-consuming on a https web server configuration when off-loading the ssl.

I'm following the instructions in document "WSRP_for_PeopleTools_Red_Paper_7_7_2011.pdf"
