How to Export Data (Write) from Multiple Records Using File Layout (XML Format)?

Would like advice (an example) of how to accomplish this.

File Layout: JOB_HISTORY

Record1 (parent)
 Record2 (child)
  Record3 (grandchild)
   Record4 (greatgrandchild)
    Record5 (greatgreatgrandchild)

Executing code from Application Engine and/or Component/Page.

XML file will be used with BI Publisher (formerly called XML Publisher)
