wsdls are unreadable by soapUI tool when messages based on document-with-child-documents structures

 We have encountered a very frustrating problem.  We are on Campus Solutions 9.0 and PeopleTools 8.53.05.   We are developing a webservice and the message structures are based on documents that use child documents.  When we generate the wsdl everything seems fine until we try to have the soapUI tool read the wsdl to create a new testing project.  SoapUI says it could not load the wsdl ("Attempted read from closed stream") when it tries to pull in one of the child xsd structures.  We can traverse to wsdl and its child xsds via the browser so the pieces exist
