Delete Tree Node detail/leaf via sql

Hi,

We have a user requirement whereas we have to remove treeenode/leaf values from our custom tree which is referred to by our Combo build process.  We were requested to use sql script to delete 1000+ leaf as bulk but we are concerened  on the performance related to it.  We are also not using the tree maintenance process presently as it has not been used in our production eversince.

We would like to know if any of you have experienced performance problems with trees which nodes removed and not updated for treenode gaps by tree maint process
