What is the use of DISPOSITIONED_IND and TAMPERED_IND in SHIPSKU table?

Hello All. Newbie here.

What is the DISPOSITIONED_IND field in the SHIPSKU table used for, or used by? I see there is a constraint restricting this value to a "Y", as in "yes".

Purpose of my question is - I want to start tracking in RMS, at the carton level, when a carton is lost  by the freight carrier; we will open a freight claim, and the status of the freight claim.

so - I was thinking I could put an "L" to track LOST cartons, "O" to track OPEN CLAIM, and "C" to track "CLOSED CLAIM"; but if this can only be a Y, then I will build a table to track the status
