OIM/OID Integration

I am working with 3 components - OIM, an App Instance and OID.

Lets say I update a user's email address in OIM, it will update the App Instance but when I go back and look in OID the email has not changed.

But they are integrated because if I manually enter a user's password into OID, they can login to OIM with this same password.

How can I ensure updating information in OIM will update OID and vice versa?
