remove old files in /rman directory

we normally have a level 0 backup sat night and level 1 backups sunday through friday with archive log backups every 4 hours.

retention policy is 5 days.

my /rman directory is full, causing the sat night backups to fail, which i rerun monday night. unfortunately the monday night backup is not obsolete yet on saturday, and therefore there is no room for another backup. The specific SAN device has no more room to allocate to the /RMAN directory.

i am seeing several files i beleive are from the archive log backups that are 6+ days old.

when i look in v$backup_files the files are not listed.
