AR period open - Leaving ARP period open

Do you know if anyone ever leaved the AR period for ARP open indefinitely?  We have a request from our user base to leave the AR period for the ARP transaction open and not close the period.  Just wondering if you know of any issues in doing this.  When we enter a deposit in one month then close the period, we can't do the application for the deposit in the new period because we can't change the accounting period.  We use the cash control and want to recognize our cash immediately but this is causing a big issue.  Any suggestions?
