Enable DoModal - Javascript window pop-up

We are upgrading from PeopleTools 8.50  to PeopleTools 8.53. For some reason DoModal PeopleCode function is still replacing the current page, wheres it should show JavaScript pop-up window. Is there a central setting to change how DoModal behaves ?
