How is performance with an Excel ODBC connection to PeopleSoft?

We have clients who want to use Excel ODBC to have 'live' look at PeopleSoft data, but given the size of PeopleSoft that doesn't seem to me like it would have acceptable performance. What are others's experiences with this?

We have PS Fin 9.1, PT 8.51
